Rainy season 2012 has arrived

The powers that be have announce the official start of the 2012 rainy season in Costa Rica.  They say the rains yesterday marked the start of the season.

It was a long dry season for us this year with hardly any measurable rain until April when we got rain by the bucket full several times.

Driving around the past month it's been nice to see the green return to the hillsides. There are many who will be complaining about the rains in a few months but at the moment I think most people are happy the green season has begun. At least we are!

This year April showers had a hand in helping us keep the flowers alive. Showers in April and a lot of watering. It was a dry, dry season. 

Neighbors say we're not officially in the rainy season for a few more days but judging by our gardens, lawn and the surrounding hillsides it sure looks like the green season has arrived.

 

 

Making the old new again

Our front patio furniture was beginning to show it's age and needed a fresh look. Over the past month we've been working to give the furniture  a new life. And hopefully add a few years to it's life.

Bill put in hour after hour sanding the metal first then the wood parts of our porch furniture. Once the hard work was done Callista helped paint the metal and stain the wood.

It's taken awhile to get the project done as we've had to work around the rain and humid weather allowing the furniture to dry.

Today we finally got the touch up done on the black metal and got varnish on the stained wood.  They're drying in the garage for the night before they finally get put back on the porch.

I'm a bit biased but I thing the furniture looks better now than when the door to door salesman sold it to us!
